(Vienna, 8 July 2025) – ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) is expanding its network with new connections, increased round trips and consistently high-quality rail freight services across Western, Central and South-Eastern Europe. With the new TransFER Sopron–Arad, RCG extends its international portfolio with another direct, scheduled connection to western Romania.

New TransFER Sopron–Arad
Via the logistics hub in Sopron, individual wagons and wagon groups are consolidated into block trains and transported to Arad – a major logistics centre near the Hungarian border – within 24 hours. This TransFER combines short transit times on scheduled train paths with sustainable solutions in conventional wagonload transport. The service is supplemented by additional forwarding services such as transhipment, warehousing, order picking and door-to-door deliveries.

More Round Trips for TransFER Genk–Curtici
RCG is also strengthening its intermodal services to and from Romania: the TransFER Genk–Curtici will increase to six round trips per week, enhancing connectivity between Belgium and the terminal location of Curtici in western Romania. This TransFER accommodates containers, swap bodies, trailers and semi-trailers – including non-craneable semi-trailers, which represents a key advantage for many logistics providers. With fixed timetables, comprehensive additional services and a transit time of approximately 40 hours, this TransFER provides a powerful link between Western and South-Eastern Europe.

Increased Frequency for TransFER Belgrade–Rijeka
The TransFER Belgrade–Rijeka will increase from two to three round trips per week – a response to growing demand in the Western Balkans. This TransFER connects the Nelt container terminal near Belgrade directly with the port of Rijeka, which handles around 70 % of Serbia’s import and export freight. With its own traction, short transit times of up to 24 hours, and supplementary services such as pre- and onward carriage, the TransFER offers a reliable and sustainable solution for intermodal goods flows.

Established: TransFER Vienna–Duisburg
The TransFER Vienna–Duisburg has been operating reliably for intermodal goods flows by rail for two months – now with two weekly round trips firmly included in the schedule. In this time, it has established itself as a high-performing addition to the well-used TransFER Budapest–Duisburg. Attractive transit times and direct connections to Hungary, Italy and within Austria underline the added value this TransFER brings to intermodal transport.

Whether through new non-stop connections to Romania, increased frequencies between Serbia and Croatia, or the established route between Vienna and Duisburg – RCG is systematically advancing the expansion of its European TransNET. With high-performing logistics solutions, it enables reliable, predictable rail transport and strengthens key economic regions across Europe.
