With the ÖBB team #TowardsFuture - around 3,000 new employees wanted across Austria this year (Vienna, 12 January 2023) - ÖBB is looking for staff due to the generational change, as around one fifth of ÖBB employees will retire by 2027. In this year's anniversary year, ÖBB is looking back on its 100-year corporate history and setting the course for the future. Therefore, the mobility and logistics service provider is looking for around 3,000 new employees every year. In total, ÖBB will offer around 15,000 jobs on the Austrian labour market over the next five years. ÖBB CEO Andreas Matthä emphasises: "ÖBB is 100 years old this year. We look back on the past with a portion of pride and into the future with a double portion of confidence. For 100 years, our employees have been working on innovative and sustainable mobility and constantly developing rail and bus services. Now we are facing the biggest generational change in our history. We need to set the course for the future and inspire new talent for ÖBB. As Austria's largest climate protection company in the field of mobility and logistics, we convince with meaningful jobs in a future-oriented industry." The majority of the new employees are being sought in the so-called railway-specific professions. These include train drivers, train attendants, shunters, dispatchers and vehicle technicians for maintenance. In addition, ÖBB is looking for around 380 post bus drivers throughout Austria in 2023, most of them in Tyrol (134) and Salzburg (106). IT specialists who want to help shape the digitalisation of ÖBB and the railway operations of the future are also being sought. 1.400 apprenticeships at ÖBB throughout Austria ÖBB itself offers apprenticeships for many of the 130 job profiles. Throughout the year, monthly courses start throughout Austria to train interested applicants to become train drivers, train attendants, shunting staff (with and without traction unit operation), train dispatchers and wagon masters at Austria's largest climate protection company. As the training is already paid for, these jobs are also ideal for career changers who are looking for a new job in the new year. In addition, about 650 apprentices in 27 apprenticeship trades are being sought throughout Austria for the coming apprenticeship year. New shifters and train dispatchers receive 5,000 euros entry bonus and modern smartphone A special incentive to start at ÖBB is now offered to new prospective shunting employees and train dispatchers: After the trial month, they can expect a bonus worth 2,500 euros gross as well as a new iPhone for private use as a welcome gift. A further bonus of 2,500 euros gross will be paid to the shunting supervisors on completion of the shunting supervisor examination, and to the train dispatchers in the further course of their training. Traction vehicle drivers who have already completed their training and are starting at ÖBB will also receive a bonus of 5,000 euros gross after six months and passing their exams.
